Health Inequalities Project

South & Central Knowsley PCN have been working in conjunction with Gary See from Explore Partnership to devise a project aimed at tackling childhood obesity and improving overall mental health & wellbeing for the children of our community. Knowsley has been highlighted as having the highest number of obesity in Primary age children in the Country. Working with Volair in Huyton, Gary has devised an innovative way of getting children to improve their physical and mental health by way of attending a weekly event aimed at improving the whole family’s wellbeing, both mental and physical.

At the sessions, held over twelve weeks on a Thursday evening, Parents and guardians are encouraged to learn new skills like cooking and the children are taught skills like riding a bike or learning to swim, with the overarching aim of making it an enjoyable activity for the family to continue together once the programme finishes. Community partners are invited and along with our social prescribers, can help assist families with issues they may have outside of a health remit. The results speak for themselves with proven reduction in GP attendance as a result of attending Kidzone.

We are now into our second year and thriving. If you would like more information, scan the QR code or speak to your GP Practice.
